Cultural Geography
During the first semester, the class learns the concepts and vocabulary necessary to understand cultures around the world. Then, using a thematic approach, we study global issues such as migration and religion. Students discuss and debate how to view different cultures and recognize stereotypes. Students make presentations, participate in role-play simulations, engage in problem solving sessions, and complete a variety of short and long term projects such as interviews and portfolios on a country of their choice.

During the second semester, the class continues discussing the demographics and current importance of religion and moves on to discuss the themes of ethnicity, resources, and development. Students study the issues confronting developing nations and consider the role of the U.S in the world. This freshman class emphasizes study skills, reading, writing, and analyzing.

Students are evaluated on the quality of homework, presentations, daily participation and preparation, and tests and quizzes.
