Spanish II
During the first semester, students review the forms of the present tense learned the previous year, while focusing on more difficult grammar concepts such as indirect object pronouns, reflexive verbs, and stem-changing verbs. Culturally, students focus on Spain, its food, art, architecture, and tourist destinations. Special events and activities are planned for Day of the Dead and the Christmas Posada.

During the second semester, students learn the various forms of the past tense. They learn to speak about past events, such as their childhood experiences. They narrate stories in the past, make suggestions, and speak about activities in progress. Culturally, students focus on ancient civilizations in the Americas: the Inca, Aztec, and Maya, their ancient cities and myths. Special events and activities are planned for Cinco de Mayo.

In class, Spanish is reinforced through directed dialogs, grammar exercises, Spanish music, videos, short readings, and written projects. Projects for the first semester include creating tour guides for Spain and bargaining in an open market. Second semester projects include research projects and presentations on the Maya, Inca, and Aztec and the writing of a children’s book.
