III. Student Support Committee: This committee is a problem sharing and solving team consisting of our Dean of Students, Academic Dean, Admissions Director, School Nurse, Residential Life Director and chaired by our Psychologist. We meet weekly to share concerns about students and to develop strategies and recommendations to help students succeed in school. The team provides a constant and consistent way of reviewing our student’s social, emotional and academic progress. Community professionals, who provide academic or counseling assistance, are vital sources of information to our Student Support Team as well as student’s family members. The team coordinates our recommendations with these people. Our effort is to maintain a cohesive and comprehensive opportunity to provide perspective and enhanced possibilities for our students, faculty and staff.
Student Support Services, I direct the Learning Center and Student Counseling Program with the mandate to provide support, instruction, and professional guidance for students, faculty, administration, and families.
Student Support Services was created to provide for the needs of our students with learning differences and students who require emotional and or social support while attending Besant Hill School. Our vision is not only to enhance student potential but to embrace and maximize the facility of our staff and faculty to meet our community’s challenges. In addition, we provide a voice and center to coordinate professional services that are provided to our students by professionals in the community and to respond to the concerns of our families.
The Student Support Services Program currently offers specific programs:
(1) An Instructional Support Program
(2) Counseling and Life Skills
(3) Student Support Committee.
Our Learning Center Programs are assisted by experienced staff who are learning specialists, teachers and tutors.
I like to describe the Student Support Services Committee as a vital heart center for our community, a source of support for our students and essential resource for those of us who are privileged with the task.
